Exterior Painting & Staining in Boone, NC

Siding, trim, log and cedar, coated to stand up to mountain sun, wind and winter.

What is included

The wash, the repairs and the prep, then the paint.

Up here the weather finds every shortcut. Most of an exterior job is the work done before a can is opened, and that is the part we price and explain.

Washing

Dirt, mildew and chalky old paint cleaned off so the new coating can bond.

Scraping and sanding

Loose and failing paint taken back to a sound edge and feathered smooth.

Wood repair

Soft fascia, sills, trim and siding boards cut out and replaced, then primed on every face.

Caulk and prime

Open joints sealed and bare wood primed before the finish coats.

Paint or stain

Acrylic paint on siding and trim, or penetrating stain on log, cedar and board-and-batten.

Porches, shutters and doors

Railings, ceilings, shutters and entry doors finished to match.

In order

How an exterior job runs, in order.

  1. Inspect and quote

We walk the outside of the house, probe for rot and note what needs repair. The written price lists it.

  2. Wash and let it dry

The house is cleaned, then left to dry fully. Coating damp wood is the fastest way to a failed job.

  3. Repair, caulk, prime

Carpentry repairs first, then caulking and priming all bare and patched areas.

  4. Coat and walk it

Finish coats applied in the right weather window, then a walk-around with you.

Good to know

Why exteriors fail faster at elevation.

Stronger sun

UV breaks down stain and paint quicker on south and west walls. Those faces often need attention first.

Freeze and thaw

Water that gets behind a coating expands when it freezes. Sound caulk and primed end grain keep it out.

A short season

Coatings need mild, dry days to cure. We book exterior work for the warmer months, so call early.

Before you call

When is the exterior painting season in the High Country?

Generally spring through fall, when days are warm and dry enough for coatings to cure. The exact window changes each year with the weather.

Should my house be painted or stained?

It depends on the wood and what is on it now. Previously painted siding is usually repainted. Log, cedar and rough-sawn wood generally do better with a penetrating stain.

How often does a log or cedar home need re-staining?

It varies with exposure and the product used. Sunny, windward walls wear soonest. We can look at the house and tell you which sides need doing now and which can wait.

Do you replace rotten wood?

Yes. Our own crew does the carpentry repairs as part of the job, so you do not need a separate contractor.
